Robots In The Outback is a program that remembers the forgotten children of the remote and rural communities. We take mentors from around the world and send them to remote communities to start FIRST teams in rural schools around the country. Robots In The Outback not only teaches kids in the outback about robots, but also encourages them and inspires them.
We started the first two teams in Ivanhoe and Yanco NSW last year and with a $300,000 dollar grant and the help of our partners, this year, the program has scaled nationwide resulting in the founding of 11 new teams in 11 communities. The towns and communities have been transformed by the power of FIRST and have been inspired to stay in their communities no matter how remote or rural and rebuild it on the grounds of STEM and FIRST. The FIRST progression has now been integrated into curriculum and students are unlocking their potential.
The Robots In The Outback program is planning to be taken around the world to help revitalize the FIRST progression in communities including Iowa. We believe that the Robots In The Outback model will be the catalyst for transforming STEM Education and Technology around the world. Applications to join this endeavor to spread STEM and FIRST are under the ‘Outreach Projects’ drop down page as ‘FRC RITO Mentor Applications’. Please feel free to join if you are a mentor looking to help start FIRST teams in underserved communities.
